OTTO ADDO : GHANA HEAD COACH STEPS DOWN AFTER 2022 WORLD CUP EXIT

Otto Addo has confirmed that he will leave his role as Ghana’s head coach following the African nation’s elimination from the 2022 World Cup.

Ghana’s final Group H match against Uruguayended in a 2-0 defeat to the South American side, who were also eliminated from the tournament in Qatar.

The result ensured Ghana finished bottom of their group and, speaking after the match, Addo confirmed he would step down from his role with the national team and instead focus his efforts on his other job – a talent coach with Borussia Dortmund.

He said: “Yes, I said it before when I started as assistant coach in October (September) last year. It was clear actually I would stop after the World Cup.

“At the moment me and my family see our future in Germany and I like my role at Dortmund and we are very happy there.

“From the day I started I said if we qualified I would resign after the World Cup, even if we are champions.”

Addo was appointed as one of Ghana’s two deputies for the then-coach Milovan Rajevac.

He became the interim coach of Ghana in March this year and guided them to the 2022 Qatar World Cup finals after drawing 1–1 against Nigeria.

Addo was the first Ghanaian manager to win a match at the World Cup with Ghana.
